Cocorose London (www.cocoroselondon.com) has launched a range of silk-lined, pleated silk face masks, not just for those who prefer the feel of silk on their skin, or who want to reduce maskne, but to allow those wishing to benefit from the latest scientific knowledge on the use of silk in Covid-19 face masks, to be able to do so, if they wish.
A laboratory-based study[i] has just highlighted the superb capacity of silk to repel water droplets, thanks to its ‘hydrophobicity’, or resistance to the penetration of such small and aerosolized droplets. In fact, the silk which was tested repelled droplets just as well as a surgical single-use face mask and has the added advantage of being able to be washed and reused, rather than becoming a disposable single-use item that causes issues for the planet.
Responding to this, Cocorose London has added to its large number of silk masks lined with cotton, by creating a new range of silk-throughout, pleated face masks with gentle nose wire. All silk used in both Cocorose London silk mask ranges is high-grade, premium quality mulberry silk and all masks, whether silk or cotton-lined, include an internal pocket, in which to fit a filter paper, and a matching pouch, in which to store the mask when not being worn. All of the silk masks, regardless of lining, will offer the same resistance to droplets that was highlighted in the study.
The new pleated silk face masks with silk lining come in the colour choices of peach, gold, rose gold, blue-grey and grey pearl and cost £24.99, inclusive of matching silk pouch. All can be washed multiple times – something that does not affect hydrophobicity.
The masks are also naturally hypoallergenic and come with adjustable ear loops. They can be worn all day long, in total comfort, and are soft on the face, not causing the irritation that can come with some other materials, for those with more sensitive skin.
All profits from this new range of silk-only masks, as with all Cocorose London face masks, go to the Honeypot Children’s Charity, which provides respite breaks for children who are full-time carers for their parents or siblings.
Head to www.cocoroselondon.com to buy a new pleated, silk-lined silk mask with pouch for £24.99, or a fitted silk mask with cotton lining and pouch for £19.99. The latter come in grey pearl, peach, gold, champagne, chocolate brown, khaki green, pink, black, navy, dark grey, light gold sand, rose pink, mermaid blue, blue-grey and royal blue. A white bridal silk mask with cotton lining is available for £24.99.
