London, September 2024 – Held recently, the 13th London Card Show witnessed a momentous occasion when a rare Messi-Ronaldo Dual Auto 1/1 Superfractor card was handed over for consignment at the show.

The London Card Show took place at Sandown Park Racecourse, Surrey, and drew over 5,000 collectors, vendors and enthusiasts, celebrating a weekend of engaging activities, exclusive collectibles, and celebrity appearances from the likes of ex-England footballer David James.

Showstopper: The Rare Messi-Ronaldo Card

The rare Messi-Ronaldo card was won by Ryan, a company director from Bedfordshire, through a pack break on Jamie Byrom's Whatnot channel (jamie5jw). Jamie, a local streamer, handed it over to Ryan in one of the most exciting moments of the event. This incredible card, a Ronaldo-Messi Dual Auto 1/1 Superfractor, is part of the Topps Chrome Set, which was bought by Ryan for just £27.

The card now sold for a whopping £67,000, was up for auction on Goldin from the 12th of August to the 3rd of September, where bidders from around the world participated in the auction.

Speaking at the London Card Show, the lucky winner Ryan, a company director from Bedfordshire who also streams under the name 'rcd_cards' recounted the moment he won the card, stating, “It was a complete shock. I had no idea it was so valuable until I started getting offers of £45k plus within 30 minutes of the reveal. It was a surreal 24 hours.”

Understanding the card's immense value, Ryan decided to deliver it to Goldin, the gold standard for sports card auctions, at the London Card Show. “We decided the safest way for Jamie to give me the card was at the London Card Show, so we organised with Topps to do the handover at their station at the show. It was the best decision to maximise the card's potential and give it to them for auction. Plus, I didn’t fancy taking something so expensive and important home with me,” Ryan explained.

Jamie Byrom, also said at the event, “When I revealed the card on my Whatnot channel, I shouted 'oh my god' a fair few times and woke up my wife and daughter, which didn't go down too well. It was a once-in-a-lifetime card pull for me and my channel.”

Speaking at the London Card Show, Art Torres, Consignment Director at Goldin, highlighted the significance of the card: “This is the biggest Chase card from this year's Topps Chrome product. It's a 1/1; it's a superfractor Ronaldo–Messi, you can't go wrong! One of the biggest cards in existence.”

Goldin, the subject of a recent Netflix documentary, also chose the London Card Show for the card’s handover. Torres said, “I love the people that run this show; Harry and the team are phenomenal. Their hospitality and reputation is wonderful. This is my fourth show with them, and I’ve seen it grow. I decided to make this consignment happen at the London Card Show because it’s becoming a staple here for the hobby enthusiast to attend. It's soon going to be one of those shows you can't miss.”

Testament to the event’s popularity and reach, former England and Liverpool footballer David James was also among the high-profile attendees. Engaging in an exclusive Q&A session with the audience, he shared his passion for collecting, recounting his experiences as a collector since childhood and expressing his lifelong enthusiasm for the hobby.
