A commercial insurance broker has some good news for recruiters struggling to place candidates due to the ongoing coronavirus situation, if they are willing to pivot into a new type of income earning.
Gauntlet Group is what is known as a ‘network principal’ in the insurance sector, working in partnership with over 40 Appointed Representatives – the equivalent of franchisees - in the financial services industry. Whilst the majority of firms are not recruiting, Gauntlet is pro-actively seeking expansion of its network and paying a healthy finder’s fee to recruiters putting forward the right candidates for the self-employed role on offer.
Some recruitment agencies have worked with Gauntlet on this basis in the past and earned an additional revenue stream. With much recruitment business being on hold at present, Gauntlet is urging other recruiters to think just as flexibly, to bring some income through the door.
Gauntlet says there has never been a better time for recruiters to find candidates for an Appointed Representative role. There are a good number of discontented account executives who are now employed by big broking firms that have bought out their former employer. Many of these account executives – the salesforce within insurance firms - are now working within a corporate culture alien to them, whilst office mergers have led to others facing a long commute. At this moment in time, nobody wants that.
Additionally, many will have already got over the working from home hurdle and will be more receptive to the idea of doing that on a permanent basis, rather than returning to office life under social distancing. Around a third of Gauntlet’s ARs work from home and it is typically the starting position for new businesses.
A talented insurance account executive, used to selling to clients and bringing business in for an employer, can do very well as an Appointed Representative. The earnings potential is significant, they can base business around family life and actually take steps towards what it pinned to their vision board.
Gauntlet believes recruiters could be tactical about finding such individuals, pinpointing areas where insurance buyouts have seen mergers and office closures occurring and also focusing on cities known for having a strong insurance sector – London, Bristol, Leeds, Norwich and Peterborough being some of these.
Gauntlet’s managing director, Roger Gaunt, says, “We believe that being agile and thinking differently is the key to many businesses surviving the coronavirus pandemic. We are offering recruiters a chance to earn money at a time when the traditional recruitment sector is on its knees. It may take a bit of time to put a strategy together to find insurance account executives but we have seen other recruiters do it very successfully. Hopefully, our proposition is a bit of good news in bleak times.”
