You’ll never want to use heavy, easily broken concrete border edging again!
Installing edging to makeover flower and veg beds is set to become a breeze thanks to a new generation of virtually unbreakable rubber borders – and as they’re made from recycled tyres, these ultra-light border edges boast impeccable green credentials, too.
Primeur’s Recycled Rubber Border Collection is a lightweight alternative to traditional concrete edging, which is not only heavy to lift but is notoriously susceptible to cracking, especially while being transported home from the garden centre or DIY store.
As an added bonus, the 1.2 metre-long recycled rubber borders offer superb natural flexibility, allowing them to curve and flow around existing lines of planting, while helping gardeners to be more adventurous with their designs and incorporate real wow factor when creating new plots.
The key ingredient to these ultra-tough rubber borders is recycled tyres, and giving tyres a new lease of life in gardens is helping to prevent a mountain of rubber from being dumped in landfill. Globally, 2.5billion tyres are produced every year, creating a huge volume of waste when tyres come to the end of their serviceable life. With each tyre containing over 200 ingredients, it takes 80 years for a waste tyre to decompose – but 6kg of rubber crumb can be recycled from just one tyre and reformed into ingenious new garden products.
Primeur’s Sarah McLafferty said: “There was a time when installing heavy border edging was not for the faint-hearted but our lightweight Recycled Rubber Border Collection is a game changer. Borders are robust enough to withstand whatever the weather throws at them and refuse to stain, fade or rot, ticking all the boxes for low-maintenance gardens. Recycled rubber borders boast impressive resistance to mould and mildew, eliminating the messy and tedious chore of pressure washing to remove unsightly green algae. As borders come with spikes provided to quickly anchor them to the ground, installation is a pleasure.”
Recycled rubber borders can help to reduce the risk of injuries in gardens where children will be playing, as their texture is a softer alternative to hard concrete edging. And as Primeur’s recycled rubber borders are lawnmower and nylon cord trimmer-safe, they’re just the ticket for helping gardeners young and old to avoid coming a-cropper while pottering outdoors.
The Recycled Rubber Border Collection is available in a host of attractive and eye-catching styles to cater for all gardening tastes. A popular choice for a natural look is the Roman Stone Border – winner of a coveted Garden Industry Manufacturers’ Association (GIMA) Landscaping Award – and available in earth or grey colours.
For gardeners looking for a more traditional edging effect but with all the benefits of flexible rubber, Scallop Borders fit the bill, while Flexi-Curve borders with Scroll or Rockwall effects are real head-turners for those who want to jazz up border displays. Ultra Curve EZ Borders come with brick or stone effects, instantly providing the appearance of sophisticated hard landscaping but with the benefit of easy installation.
