Gardeners up and down the country are pretending they’ve been to Hogwarts by creating a bit of magic in their own back yards, thanks to The Willow Wand, a piece of living art that gets better every year.
Hardy Willow Wands are hand-crafted in the UK from nine living willow stems, each expertly selected by the company’s master weavers. The finished product – a stunning symmetrical wand that forms an eye-catching feature in any garden – is woven by hand with impeccable accuracy and skill.
Stems of the Willow Wand remain fixed at the same height, but over the years they’ll graft together and become one single willow trunk, while retaining a beautiful twisted decorative effect.
In as little as six weeks after planting, decorative stems of the Willow Wand will have grown a delightful topiary crown. All gardeners have to do is trim the crown into any desired shape – no expertise is needed. Wands create wow factor when planted as a centre piece, in groups or to form standard decorative hedging. They’ll thrive in sun or shade.
Willow Wand’s Simon Read said: “The Danish sculptor Heinrich Braun has used the endless potential of willow to create a stunning range of designs based on the philosophy of simplicity, elegance and natural shapes. When I first saw The Willow Wand up close, my involuntary reaction was the same that I have heard on countless occasions since then: ‘Wow!’
“We loved The Willow Wand so much that we decided to become Heinrich’s UK partners, master the craftsmanship needed to make them and launch it in the UK. So many satisfied customers now share our sense of magic and awe that from small beginnings we are now poised to be able to offer our range nationally.”
Wands are exceptionally easy to grow. Upon receipt, gardeners should plant them immediately, firming in hard and watering well. Plants must be kept well-watered. All owners need to do after planting is watch the wand magically grow a topiary crown.
Gardeners need not worry about Willow Wands even during the harshest of winters, as plants are 100% hardy and do not require protection, even during spells of severe cold. English willow needs to remain outdoors all year-round and enjoys cool, damp conditions.
Wands are available in four sizes: small (RRP £10), medium (RRP £15), and large (RRP £20), with large savings on offer when bought in packs of three from www.willowwand.co.uk. Delivery is free for orders over £25.
The Willow Wand is widely available across the UK, with stockists including Thompson & Morgan and YouGarden.
