A dog can feel like the king or queen of the castle this summer, if you treat them to an afternoon tea at Langley Castle, a medieval, fortified castle hotel located close to Hexham in Northumberland.
Only 7% of people told an independent research survey, commissioned by Langley Castle, that they had ever been to a venue that served an afternoon tea for dogs. To put that right, it’s worth noting that Langley Castle has its very own p.m. tea for canines of all breeds and not just history buffs wanting to feel the thrill of afternoon tea in an authentic historical setting.
This scrumptious temptation for four-legged friends features tasty Bark Bangers, a cooling Iced Pupcake, a luxurious Paw Star Martini and a satisfying lollipop.
These treats can be served in the spine-tingling Langley Castle Drawing Room, beneath twinkling chandeliers and in front of a roaring fire in winter. Alternatively, if summer sunshine beckons, it could be taken outside.
Either way, you can get to experience a stunning castle built in 1350, with seven-feet-thick walls, an incredible interior and the best example of medieval garderobes in Europe. You’ll be able to spot a medieval seal belonging to the first or second Baron of Langley and take fantastic photos of you and your dog, using the incredible castle building as your backdrop.
Dog-friendly rooms are available in the Castle View and Castle Lodge accommodation in the grounds, should you wish to stay. The castle also has a guide to tell you where you can explore, in wider Northumberland, with man’s best friend by your side.
This could be the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall, just a short drive from Langley Castle, which 36% of Brits also say they haven’t seen. But, there are many more places welcoming of dogs, close at hand.
Worry not about your own afternoon tea delights. The castle also offers a Traditional Afternoon Tea, a Confectioner’s Afternoon Tea for those with a sweet tooth, and a Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, full of hearty savoury delights. Tuck into one of these and you won’t be left slavering, whilst Fido enjoys his upmarket, dog-centric castle fayre.
