Get your 2022 travel experience off to a stellar start, with a Starry Knight ‘Aurora’ experience at Langley Castle Hotel in idyllic, rural Northumberland – something promising to to be one of the ‘crater escapes’ of the year ahead.
The 671-year-old castle has teamed up with the world-famous Kielder Observatory, to create a twinkling one-night overnight stay that will leave you spellbound and mesmerised by both your accommodation and the galaxy above, in a world-renowned dark sky location, which brings stars out of their hiding places.
The experience combines a luxury stay at 4-star Langley Castle and a sumptuous three-course meal in the 2AA-Rosette ‘Josephine Restaurant’, followed by a trip, by dead of night and by luxury coach, to the Kielder Observatory, where some of the most knowledgeable astronomers in the country will guide your journey from constellation to constellation.
There is also the chance of seeing the dancing and breathtaking phenomenon - the Aurora Borealis or ‘Northern Lights’ - sometimes known as ‘Lord Derwentwater’s Lights’ in tribute to a former Langley Castle owner. Fairy-tales, myths and legends abound when it comes to the Northern Lights and this is your opportunity to learn everything about them and find out how and when to spot them for yourself.
The trip will also allow you to use powerful telescopes, to view the moon’s craters, distant galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, and maybe even the magnificent Milky Way. Your sense of your own place in time and space will never have been as moving.
On return to Langley Castle, you will return to the magnificent drawing room and enjoy a cheeseboard and warming snifter, to round off an experience of a lifetime.
The luxury stay and star-gazing experience is not astronomically priced, costing £325 for two people, staying in a Castle View Room in the grounds. Deluxe Castle rooms for two, within Langley’s seven-feet-thick walls, are priced at £375 and, if you want the ultimate in-castle experience in a Feature Castle Room, it will cost £400 for the night, for two people sharing. Prices include the accommodation, three-course meal, Kielder Observatory experience and transport and the return midnight-feast-style treat, plus a full Northumbrian breakfast the following morning.
