Those with lockdown cabin fever can make plans to shoot off to Langley Castle Hotel in Northumberland, which has parcelled up the perfect package for those who want to ‘do’ Christmas in the way the regulations permit.
On December 17, the innovative 670-year-old castle has arranged something permitted by Covid-19 regulations – a wonderful clay pigeon shoot, set in Langley’s 10-acre grounds, with lots of fresh Northumberland air thrown in for free.
This is being combined with a sumptuous, socially distanced Christmas lunch at the 14th century castle, for a price of just £80 per person, enabling participants to have outdoor fun and exercise and precisely the worked-up appetite required for a feast fit for a king or queen. With a glorious starter, turkey with all the trimmings and good old Christmas pud to follow, it’s a treat for anyone to look forward to.
If travelling to Northumberland for this outdoor Christmas extravaganza, accommodation can be added to the package. An overnight stay in a standard Castle View bedroom, in Langley’s grounds, costs £280 per room, with the clay pigeon shooting and Christmas lunch included. If you wish to upgrade that to a Castle View Suite, it is £300 per room. Prices include a full Northumbrian breakfast the following morning.
Experience England’s most authentic, fortified castle, adept at keeping Covid-19 defences up but spirits high, by travelling to its glorious location in Langley-on-Tyne, just a short drive from Hexham and around 30 miles from Carlisle in one direction and from Newcastle in the other.
