Automation and materials handling expert L.B. Foster is celebrating achieving independent industry standards accreditation for its quality management, environmental management and occupational health and safety management systems, processes and procedures.

Part of the electrical and mechanical engineering group L.B. Foster Europe, L.B. Foster Automation & Materials Handling is now certified to ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015 and BS OHSAS18001:2007.

Chris Brown, Head of Sales, L.B. Foster Automation & Materials Handling, says: “We have now achieved a consistent set of operational standards across our business, reflecting our commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence. These are the standards expected by our Tier 1 and 2 supply chain partners, so we have invested to align ourselves with our customers.

“We deliver innovative automated engineering solutions for a range of customers across different industry sectors - from Premier Foods and Britvic in food and beverage to BMW, Bentley and Jaguar Land Rover in the automotive sector, as well as working in warehousing and distribution and aerospace.”

ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a quality management system when an organisation needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. ISO 14001:2015 specifies the requirements for an environmental management system that an organisation can use to enhance its environmental performance. BS OHSAS 18001:2007 is an international standard which provides a framework to identify, control and decrease the risks associated with health and safety within the workplace.

A recent project for an advanced engineering component manufacturer focused on the issue of foreign materials left inside precision castings. L. B. Foster’s design team developed an innovative fabricated machine, housing a rotating frame with clamps to securely hold ceramic casts across a range of sizes. A powerful vacuum system transports foreign materials out of the casts. The inclusion of a sophisticated vision system performs a particle check of the foreign material collected in the filter, prior to returning the cast to the production line.

L.B. Foster Automation & Materials Handling specialises in the design, build and supply of automated systems and machines to precisely suit global manufacturing and production demands. This is achieved through the intelligent application of materials handling and conveyor technologies, combined with automated assembly, test and robotic technologies.
