It’s been a whirlwind start to my year as High Sheriff – and an absolute joy to meet so many people across Shropshire who are going the extra mile to make this fantastic county an even more special place in which to live and work.
I’ve been fortunate to attend events in all corners of the county, including visiting Newcastle on Clun to present Coronation Medals to the primary school children there, a memorable Coronation community lunch party at Telford’s Chinese Arts and Culture Centre, a truly fabulous Coronation Concert by Wem Jubilee band, a wellbeing event in Market Drayton, , the relaunch of the vitally-important Shropshire Mental Health Forum, Ellesmere Town Council’s annual meeting and then a few days later the centenary celebrations for Ellesmere Guides.
My year in office started when I was asked to perform the opening of the new 7 Academy of Performing Arts in Madeley. I want my year to focus on volunteers and community projects which add real value to our communities – and I couldn’t have chosen a better start.
The academy is all about giving its members the confidence to follow their dreams, inspiring new generations and giving local talent the opportunity to shine. It was a pleasure to play a small part in such a wonderful venture.
