London, 22 November, 2024 – The recently concluded 14th edition of the London Card Show wasn’t just a landmark for trading card enthusiasts—it made waves around the world, thanks to two standout Marvel collectibles that drew massive attention.

Hosted at Sandown Park Racecourse, right at the edge of London in Surrey, the sold-out weekend brought together over 6,000 attendees, but it was two extraordinary Marvel cards that left attendees buzzing with excitement, solidifying the show’s status as the go-to event for collectors.

Attendees were awestruck by two Marvel cards from the highly sought after Topps’ 2024 Chrome Collections, both hailed as among the rarest and most valuable pieces in the Marvel trading card universe.

Wolverine 1/1 Superfractor

The 1/1 Wolverine Superfractor card, part of Topps’ first-ever Marvel Chrome 50th Anniversary set, was unveiled by collector Lee Raper. Celebrating 50 years of Wolverine’s iconic history, this “Through the Years” card is a visual masterpiece, capturing the legendary X-Men hero in stunning chrome. With staggering odds of 1 in 87,000 boxes - or over 1 in 1,044,000 packs - this card is truly one of a kind.

“This card is a piece of history,” said Raper. “The Marvel Topps Chrome 50th Anniversary set is already a monumental release, but this card, being the only one in existence and celebrating Wolverine’s legacy, takes it to another level. I’ve already received offers from major collectors, including DJ Steve Aoki and international buyers—it’s been surreal!”

Currently valued at over £140,000, the card’s pristine condition and its connection to the first-ever Topps Marvel Chrome collection make it a once-in-a-lifetime collectable.

Speaking about the significance of the London Card Show for the UK collecting community, Lee said: “The London Card Show is where collectors come together to share their love of the hobby. Showcasing the Wolverine card here felt like the perfect moment.”

Hulk 1/1 Sapphire Edition

Another show-stopping highlight was the Hulk 1/1 card, a cornerstone of the Marvel Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition. This card combines the Hulk’s unparalleled might with Topps’ groundbreaking Sapphire card technology.

“This Hulk card represents everything collectors dream of—rarity, innovation, and a stunning design,” said Nick Kavanagh, the collector who owns the card.

The Marvel Chrome Sapphire Edition has set new standards in the hobby. With 150 base cards, exclusive Sapphire Selections inserts, and the first-ever Sapphire card releases, the set has quickly become a must-have for collectors across the globe.

Both the Wolverine and Hulk cards hail from sets that have redefined Marvel trading cards.

Marvel Topps Chrome 50th Anniversary Set: The first-ever Marvel Chrome release by Topps, this set celebrates Marvel’s rich history with a 150-card base set, featuring first appearance cards, 14 parallels, and rare 1/1 Superfractors. Key chase cards spotlight iconic characters like Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Iron Man, with inserts like Spider-Man Gold, Daredevil 60th Anniversary, and Marvel 90s.

Marvel Topps Chrome Sapphire Edition: An elevated follow-up to the Chrome set, the Sapphire Edition dazzles with cutting-edge card tech and ultra-rare Padparadscha parallels. It also features exclusive inserts such as Sapphire Selections and the continuation of Wolverine’s 50th Anniversary highlights.

“These sets are game-changers,” said Harry Reynolds, CEO of the London Card Show. “Marvel’s first Chrome and Sapphire editions have not only attracted collectors but also breathed new life into the hobby with their quality and creativity. The presence of these cards at our show highlights why the London Card Show has become the go-to destination for collectables fans.”

As the UK and Europe’s largest collectables event, the London Card Show continues to grow in size and significance. From rare Marvel cards to Pokémon, Star Wars, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Disney and sports collectables, the event consistently delivers thrilling discoveries.

The event’s energy was amplified by the presence of several renowned content creators and celebrities from the worlds of entertainment, sports, and gaming - including the likes of former England and Arsenal football legend Paul Merson, world famous gaming influencer and trading card enthusiast elrubiusOMG (who has more than 40 million subscribers on YouTube), West Ham presenter and podcaster jaackmaate, and the popular standup comedian and actor Guz Khan.

Other highlights included a live Whatnot streaming zone, Topps collection box breaks, and box breaks by well-known Pokémon influencers PokiChloe and PokeDean. Fans also had the opportunity to participate in the Pokémon Trainer Challenge, attend the popular ‘Risk It or Leave It’ session, and explore the Retro Gaming Zone, where nostalgic classics like Pac-Man and Street Fighter transported attendees back to their childhoods.

The Kids Zone, a family favourite, was buzzing with activities ranging from custom card creation workshops to interactive box breaks. Notable Lorcana artist Milica Celikovic hosted an art workshop and delighted young fans with conversations about her work on Hearthstone and Minion Masters as well as signing autographs.

“Our show has become a magnet for rare and valuable cards,” explains Reynolds. “Collectors trust us as the best place to showcase their prized pieces, knowing they’ll find a passionate and knowledgeable audience. Events like this prove how vibrant the hobby is, and we’re proud to be playing a part in its growth.”
