Consumer interest in Victorian tiles has soared in 2021, according to new research by independent tile specialists Porcelain Superstore.
Using data obtained from Google Trends, searches for the term ‘Victorian Tiles’ in the Home & Garden category peaked in 2021 and are the highest since records began back in 2004.
Abbas Youssefi, Director at Porcelain Superstore, said: “When it comes to interiors, the Victorians loved showing off their wealth and tiling became the must-have in most homes.
“Today, there is a huge demand for Victorian-inspired tiles that will create a timeless look, from classic geometrics on the floor to colourful arcade-style wall tiles.”
Victorian tiles were largely encaustic, which meant they were made by layering different shades of clay, and not only did they make them very beautiful, but very expensive too.
Porcelain Superstore’s Victorian-inspired tiles have all the aesthetics of a Victorian tile, but thanks to modern manufacturing methods, a much more budget friendly price tag.
Packed with heritage appeal, they will transform any space, regardless of its age and style.
Abbas added: “The Victorians really led the way when it came to using tiles to create interiors with impact, and we’re finding that today’s homeowners – whether they live in a period property or not – want to create Insta-fabulous interiors that will wow across social media.”
Research was carried out using data from Google Trends. While Google Trends doesn’t show exact search volumes it shows increases in interest by providing a ‘normalised’ score of between 0 and 100 against particular terms and categories.
