FBC Manby Bowdler supports aspiring engineers through £1k scholarships

Two University of Wolverhampton engineering students have received £1,000 scholarships to help pursue their future career ambitions. 

Through its ongoing support of the Women in Engineering Initiative, FBC Manby Bowdler has again donated two £1,000 scholarships this year, with Alex Hutton and Amélie Collins chosen as the latest recipients. 

Awarded in recognition of their academic performance, the scholarships form part of a long running programme designed to encourage women to study engineering or continue to work within the industry. 

Alex, a mechanical engineering student, has eyes on a career in biomedical engineering, with the scholarship set to help with a trip to the world’s largest hydroelectric power station in China. 

Motorsport engineering student Amélie Collins is using her scholarship to help expand her network and gain more experience in the industry, with ambitions to work as a race mechanic. 

FBC Manby Bowdler also remain a long-term sponsor of the University of Wolverhampton Racing (UWR) team and CEO Neil Lloyd, said: “We are proud to have a long-standing relationship with the University of Wolverhampton through this fund, that can really make a difference for women in engineering. 

“Once again, these two scholarships have been handed to two students who have real talent and ambition, and we’re delighted to be involved.” 

Over the years, numerous scholarships have been handed out to women who have gone on to launch careers in the UK and overseas, with one setting up their own business in Nigeria. 

Shane Kelly, the UWR Team Manager and professional race and test driver, added: “As always, handing out these scholarships and deciding which students will be awarded them is an extremely difficult choice. 

“It never gets any easier because we have so many incredibly talented women working to pave their way in engineering.”
