A new £20m retirement community in Newport which is the first of its kind in Shropshire has officially opened its doors.

Sundew Court in Newport is made up of 61 apartments for rent and 16 bungalows, with the site also boasting the Happy Quail restaurant and bar, large lounge area, library, salon, multi-function room along with extensive gardens, and a 24/7 onsite care team.

Later living specialist Untold Living have now officially opened Swan and Dove House parts of the site, which makes up for 55 per vent of the community.

This includes 40 apartments and seven bungalows – with the opening coming after a recent handover between contractors McPhillips and Untold.

Untold is aiming to establish a leading benchmark for retirement living in the region, bringing together high-end hospitality, independent living with a unique and refreshing culture.

General manager Adrian Pickard explained it was a landmark moment for those choosing to make Sundew Court their home – and for his team.

He said: “This is a moment the whole team has been working towards, right from the moment the first shovels went into the ground at Sundew Court.

“Everything has gone in to making Sundew Court a place where people can make their home in later life, without any added worries or pressures.

“Our team is here to take that pressure off residents so they can spend their time doing what they enjoy and have a new lease of life while taking advantage of all the fantastic amenities we have here.

“The name explains this isn’t a care home, it is an IRC, a community, which is shaped completely by the people who will live here.

“For those coming to live here, it is about moving on to a new neighbourhood and exciting stage of their lives, where they become part of a connected community.

“The whole team is thrilled to soon be welcoming our first residents through the doors after all the hard work that’s gone into this.

“We want every resident to feel at home here from day one and to look back on the move as one of the best decisions they’ve made.

“What we promise our residents is the opportunity to build a better life for themselves and their neighbours.

“It’s a virtuous circle which I and my team help manage and facilitate, but we need the residents to help us build the culture. At the end of the day, it’s all about people being enables to live a better life.”

Development on Sundew Court, which involved contractors McPhillips and architects Gaunt Francis, began back in late 2024.

The final construction works at set to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
