Explore the dark side on November 1, 2022, by taking up a once-in-a-lifetime experience, combining a stay in an fortified medieval castle hotel with a stargazing and black hole exploration extravaganza.
Langley Castle Hotel has released a new autumnal date for what has become a stellar event for guests – a Starry Knight experience – with these events selling faster than you can say gravitational collapse.
Langley Castle is a Northumbrian medieval fortification, and now an authentic castle hotel, built in 1350 and located within the world’s third-largest protected Dark Sky reserve and under the largest area of protected night sky in Europe. Thanks to its location – also brilliantly close to Hadrian’s Wall – it is on the doorstep of the world-famous Kielder Observatory, its partner in its Starry Knight events.
Guests check-in for their one-night stay in Langley-on-Tyne, (extendable if they wish) and enjoy a superb three-course meal in the 2AA Rosette Josephine restaurant, before heading off to the Kielder Observatory, deep in the Kielder Forest, by luxury coach.
On this November event, they will be able to focus on dark matter, dark energy and the enigma that is a black hole, as well as unlocking the mysteries of the universe with the help of the Kielder experts. Conversely, they will discover the universe’s uses of light, whilst also being able to get hands-on with rocks that help explain the origins of the Solar System.
After navigating the night sky with telescopes and enjoying some exquisite stargazing, if the weather permits, all will be able to head back to Langley Castle, to be served delights from a cheeseboard, plus a warming snifter, before turning in.
Guests can choose whether their bed for the night is inside the castle, in a Feature or Deluxe Castle Room, or in the Castle View accommodation in the converted stable block in the grounds. Either way, they can enjoy a sumptuous Northumbrian breakfast the next morning and also join the daily Battlements Tour, learning all about Langley Castle and its colourful history.
This experience costs £380 for two people sharing a Castle View room, £420 for two sharing a Deluxe Castle Room and £460 for those opting for a Castle Feature Room.
