As we approach International Day of Happiness on the 20th of March, it's heartening to note the resurgence of the age-old hobby of card trading, especially in an era increasingly dominated by digital entertainment.

With a staggering 113% increase in card trading sales across Europe in 2021 alone[1], it's evident that this pastime is not only enduring but thriving - and encouraging close-knit communities of fans up and down the country.

Research[2] has shown that since the pandemic, a striking 71% of adults across the UK have reported an increase in hobby engagement,[3] and studies have suggested this embracement stems from a desire to seek solace, escape, and relief from anxiety and boredom - perfect for boosting those serotonin levels!

Whether its Pokémon cards, sports cards, or collectible card games, card trading is a fast-growing hobby that offers enthusiasts an avenue to immerse themselves in a world of nostalgia, strategy, and mental stimulation. More than just a fun pastime, it has evolved into a therapeutic outlet, offering numerous benefits for one’s mental health and overall wellbeing.

Through local meetups, online streams, or in-person card trading events, such as the London Card Show, enthusiasts can connect with like-minded individuals, forging friendships based on shared interests and passions which serve as a vital support network.

Harry Reynolds, founder of the London Card Show, comments, ‘Card trading isn't just about collecting pieces of cardboard - it's about moments of joy, from the thrill of the hunt and the nostalgia of childhood memories to making new connections with fellow enthusiasts from all walks of life. We see this at every one of our events, and that’s what makes the London Card Show so special.’

As the largest card trading show in Europe, it’s no surprise that the London Card Show connects enthusiasts from all walks of life by uniting them through a singular shared passion.

Ray, a regular vendor at the London Card Show, says that ‘Engaging in card trading isn't just about transactions; it's about connecting with fellow enthusiasts in a space where our passions are understood and celebrated. Being a part of this community has reminded of the importance of doing what makes you happy’.

The show has expanded from around 40 attendees in 2021 to over 4,000 in 2024 and is set to return for its 12th event across the weekend of the 11th and 12th of May, with over 500 different vendor tables featuring the likes of Pokémon, Football, Formula 1, Basketball, Yu-Gi-Oh, Lorcana, Magic: The Gathering, One Piece and more!
