Sustainable plant pot pioneer elho has found another innovative way to turn waste into beauty with the launch of its new coffee collection.
The B-Corp company, which is on a mission to help people introduce more nature into their lives while making the world a greener place, has partnered with Coffee Based to transform wasted coffee grounds into stylish plant pots.
It is estimated that approximately six million tonnes of coffee is produced in Europe every year, yet only a small proportion of the beans actually end up in the cup. The rest is discarded as household waste, which is often burned, in turn creating CO2 emissions.
That’s where elho comes in! Each pot in the new collection contains at least three cups of coffee waste, giving the grounds a new lease of life and helping to reduce greenhouse gases.
The range isn’t just beneficial to the environment – using this waste material gives the pots a rich, dark espresso colour and unique texture. It’s even possible to detect the light fragrance of a fresh cup of coffee!
Available in sizes from 14cm to 22cm, its shape ensures that standard grow pots will fit snugly inside, so there’s no need to repot or add extra compost. All plant lovers have to do is simply pop their favourite houseplant in and enjoy the benefits of nature.
The coffee collection is elho’s latest innovation to make use of waste material, having recently announced that its entire product range is now made from 100% recycled plastic, with specialist lines such as the ocean collection – plant pots made from maritime waste.
As a company with sustainability at its heart, the coffee collection is also fully recyclable and is produced with wind energy.
