Langley Castle – the medieval castle hotel close to Hexham – is confident of a soundwaves boost to business, having provided an enticing and audible sneak preview of a possibly unique UK hotel feature that adds value to stays and visits, thrilling visitors and non-residents alike.

Eilidh Wise, a part-time leader of Langley Castle’s daily Battlements Tours, which take place at 10.15 am each morning at the castle hotel built in 1350, has been a special guest on the Poodling Around podcast.  This ranks in the top-10 Spotify podcasts globally for #visitorattractions, providing significant potential exposure for the Langley Castle Battlements Tour, rapidly becoming a visitor attraction in its own right.

Although it only went live recently, the podcast has already attracted downloads from nine different countries around the globe and more countries are inevitably going to be reached.

Listening to the podcast, the audience is instantly enthralled, from the moment Eilidh details how the Battlements Tour operates, starting in the magnificent Drawing Room.  She highlights the first thing she personally mentions to those taking the tour and the sorts of things they will hear about when they leave the Drawing Room.  From there, the material is totally absorbing.

She explains some of the items on display, including something belonging to either the first or second Baron of Langley, before Langley Castle was even built.  This item is something that only arrived at the castle in the past few years, having been discovered by a North East metal detectorist.

Eilidh paints the historical background behind each story that guests will hear about on the tour, highlighting just how rich Langley Castle’s 675 years actually are, in terms of significant events, intrigue, rebellion and more.

The dialogue discusses events such as the Jacobite Uprisings, and Langley Castle’s links to those, and how the castle was deployed during the Second World War.  It moves from the 12th century to 21st century with great ease, also offering insights into the types of experience that current day guests, of all ages, can enjoy.  Eilidh even reveals the very favourite story that tour participants lap up, even if it is a little bit gruesome!

The podcast illuminates the context of any stay within Langley Castle’s seven-feet-thick walls.  It also conveys just how rare it is to have this degree of authenticity behind any medieval castle stay.  Whilst most castle hotels simply come with a historical façade  and little historical depth within their architectural offering, Langley Castle is just the opposite.

Langley Castle’s ability to even offer a Battlements Tour probably makes it unique amongst castle hotels in England.

With all of the material offered to podcast listeners to whet the appetite, the episode is expected to drive visits from countries fascinated by British history.  These include the USA, Canada, Australia, China and India, from where travellers already head to Langley Castle.

Visits might not just be for a stay either, with Eilidh detailing the hugely successful weddings that have taken place at the castle, from a two-day, extravagant Indian wedding to a Viking-themed occasion, and from top-dollar exclusive-use affairs to intimate elopement weddings.  With the power of audio behind them, those wanting to explore a wholly unique UK location are likely to beat a path to Langley Castle’s weighty castle door.

Langley Castle’s general manager, Mohamed Serag, says, “Eilidh is one of our brilliant tour hosts and that shines through in the podcast episode, in which she talks about our Battlement Tours and guest and wedding experiences.

“We are sure, therefore, that the podcast downloads will continue, month after month, and that they will soon generate bookings that we would not otherwise have had.  Our offering is still a real secret for many potential guests in both the UK and other countries but this audio exposure should help spread the word across the globe, to international and UK visitors who we are yet to meet and have the pleasure of introducing to our phenomenal and historically rich venue.”
